    Default 6.5 Mauser Portugese rifle

Hi can get a 6.5 Mauser Portugese rifle, original condition from an old friend for R1000. Is this a good buy and should i rather keep it original or use the action to have a custom rifle built up?

    Hi Peter,

Looking at the prices (between R1800 - R2000) these rifles are sold for at auction, R1000 seems very reasonable depending on the condition. These rifles do have rich history in a South African context, I am a collector and I shudder at the thought of firearms with historical value to be sporterised. I don't know if sporterising it will fit your requirements, as the 6.5x58 ammunition is very difficult to find. However if you do sporterise, you'll probably have to re-chamber for something like a 6.5x57. If you want to utelise a larger caliber maybe consider obtaining a K98 action instead.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Will keep in original condition as i feel the same about the historialcal value.
