Default Sun City and Firearm Storage

    Good Moring All.

We had the pleasure of spending the weekend at Sun City but had some hassles placing my FA in storage. Previously there was a two key safe system at the entrance of the entertainment centre which I have used without hassles in the past. This time around I was escorted to the back of the building where the security office was. Dodgy as hell if I might add.

Here I was asked to place my FA in a bag and place it in a communal safe where the lady informed me that she would have access to the firearm at any time. I declined as I did not feel happy with the arrangement and if not mistaken by Law I need to be the only person with access to my firearm? I wanted to take this up with the head of security which only after making some noise and 30min he was present for the discussion.

He said that we could lock it up in “his safe” but still didn’t want to hand over the key. His word were “unfortunate if you aren’t happy with the arrangement, as we are trying to accommodate you, maybe you should go home and lock your FA in your home safe it that would make you feel better” .

This made my blood boil even further. You have firearm restrictions but don’t have proper facilities available for safekeeping? What does the law say regarding this type of thing?

Sad that everything is going to crap these days and that even management seems to have the “oh well sorry for you attitude”.

They won’t see me in a hurry again.

Last time I was there, they told me to lock it in my safe in the hotel room. Needless to say I didn't.

I was there this weekend... And must be honest I thought I would have issues locking up the FA. TG I did not take it with... But shit its better to have it and be armed than be caught with your pants down.

An update for those visiting : there is safes with cctv near the entertainment area, but it is under construction till November 2016. They managed me a lift to the cop shop who gave them permission to store it in their safe. Not legal as far as I'm concerned.

They need a permit to store FAs in the manner that they suggest as outlined above. If there's no permit, its illegal. Next time ask to see the permit.

Yet another case where a car safe would have been nice to have.

I was there late last year and got my firearm stored in a large safe with many doors, each with it's own numbered key. Was very proper and I didn't have an issue with storing it there. I did field strip it and take the slide stop (which locks the slide to the frame) with me as always though. If it does get stolen then at least they can't do anything with it.

That's my comment above, that portion falls under the entertainment area and is under construction and out of service till November. No alternative.

I wish more people would carry, then they'll understand the frustration when there isn't proper facilities and that you're not doing me a favour by storing my FA illegally.
