    Question 3 Gun Rules

Hi Folks, could someone please clarify which set of rules we are using for 3 gun shoots - the SADPA DMG rules or IDPA DMG rules dated 07062010?

The reason I'm asking is that I was thinking of getting a lever action rifle for DMG, but according to the SADPA DMG rule:

DMG-CoFR 13. "Rifles that cannot be reloaded with a reloading device such as a magazine or stripper clip will not be reloaded during a match and once empty the shooter will be required to transition to handgun to enable him to finish the Rifle part of the CoF."

In other words - on an 18 round stage, once the tube is empty on a lever action, you have to transition to pistol? Am I understanding this correctly?

Khumba, Ross, Glock Goblin - your thoughts please?

The latest SADPA DMG Rules apply in SA.

You have read the rule correctly.

But since the CoF won't call for more than ten shots, if your levergun holds ten rounds and you don't miss you're OK :-)

Edit: Well, technically I guess the CoF can include 16 rifle shots and still be within the rules... but 18 handgun, 7 shotgun and 10 rifle seems to be the intent of DMG-CoF 3.

Not necessarily. Rifle CoF's are allowed up to 20 rounds (DMG- CoFR 5)

Exactly - most shoots are handgun only, shotgun only and rifle only.

I think the long gun handling skills of the average SADPA shooter need to go up a bit before we start doing DMG stages with multiple weapon transitions "on the clock".

Sadly with a lot of peoples lack of effort I wonder if we will ever get there. I say do it and DQ those that aren't safe.

Mr T, the problem is that shotties and rifles are not the primary weapons for most shooters. They are unfamiliar with the weapons which leads to unsafe gun handling.

Maybe we should have an "NSO" for long guns ??

I'm with T here - nothing motivates one to get some training like a DQ or two.
