Old/sticky oil in shotgun
The firearm: Firearm in question is a side by side Gecko shotgun.
Problem: Everytime I work the "lever" I can hear the sticky oil inside the mechanism.
Solution?: I have been told by a gunshop to disassemble the parts and soak the steel in parafin. While I am sure that parafin would work, I am not comfortable with unassembling the mechanism at all. Is there some kind of solvent that could (hopefully) possibly be easier to use than taking the whole thing apart or going to a gunsmith? Or is opening the shotgun easier than I think?

Re: Old/sticky oil in shotgun
Have a gunsmith who knows double shotguns do this for you. The fact that you need to ask tells me you have probably never done it, and the possibility of buggering or stripping screws or worse, splitting the stock, (which might be very expensive to replace) means this is not a good job for a beginner to learn on. And yes, in order to get the gun working properly, all that old oil...which has turned to something resembling varnish over the years...needs to be removed and the gun relubed with a good gun oil or synthetic.

Thanks ikor. Now the next question, does anyone know where I can find a gunsmith in the kempton park area?

Re: Old/sticky oil in shotgun
I'd PM Khumba here to get a suggestion although I am sure others will know some names. There are some good shotgun guys in SA. Remember, it is not so much that what you need done is difficult as that doing it properly is critical in order not to bugger up your shotgun.
