Alarm system - Advice please
Need some advise please on alarm systems. I've gotten some quotes from the local AR companies in our area (have not yet tried the national ones, as I've heard and seen how their service levels are) and this stuff is by no means cheap, I'm working on a limited budget here.
My thinking is to go with a DIY system and then get the "radio link thingy" to connect to the AR. So far I've seen two systems that look ok,but my knowledge of this is non-existent. Can the guys in the know please comment on these two systems, or suggest alternatives. Both of these look like basic indoor systems, but I want to add external perimeter beams. I've done some reading on alarms and it would seem as if though the jury is still out on the wired vs. wireless debate.
At the end of the day I want an early warning system, so that I know the moment a "visitor" gets onto my property and into the house/garage, etc. It should be able to set it so that when at home at night I can arm all external zones and entrances and then a "night" mode where only the sleeping area is bypassed and everything else inside and outside is armed. Currently things like cellphone/internet communication are nice to haves, as I will mostly be relying on the system when at home.
My understanding is that with both of these systems I can add additional passives/ door contacts, etc until all the zones are used up?
Sorry for all the questions, but as I mentioned, I have no knowledge of these things.

I got a wireless system it has 99 wireless Channels, and 8 wired points. It's easy to set up. I got a whole step by step by the guy putting them in.
No strangers in your house checking your lay out.
Works on remotes so there is no delay on the system.
You can call in from your cell, hear what's happening, arm or disarm it.
You can even have out building linked to it all wire less.
Comes in kit form.

And your verdict on the system so far? Any positive and negative points?
How user friendly is it?

Re: Alarm system - Advice please
Personally I don't like beams outside as they are visible and can be crawled under/over. I like a outdoor passive some have 90deg angle, 12m range, petwise (adjustable up to 40kg body mass), a lot less cable work, some mount 2m and others 1.2m above ground. Have any of you had any problems with them sofar?

I have one Paradox system running (with Magellan wireless), and will install another after the expansion of the trading space at the shop.
It is expensive, but well worth the money."Always remember to pillage before you burn"

Only two problems I've had is it hates the voda sim. Changed it to mtn all good. The back up battery only lasts 12 hours I changed that to a bigger battery.
Works well.
Saved me 3 times so far.

Re: Alarm system - Advice please
Hi there, I have a cellSecure sms operated alarm in my house, all PIR eyes are wireless, batteries lasted about 3 years and some are still going well
check their gsm alarms out on http://www.cellsecureholdings.com/ I started wit 6 PIRs and added when I could afford it, I am not a fan of the wired concept
I have linked it to Chubb response recently and it works well, Chubb service is expensive but they respond and has never failed to call or respond when I needed them
the MTN SMS sim card has never let me down, I get a sms when activated deactivated and when power goes down and up,
Best alarm IMHO though is physical barriers like a decent gate between sleeping and living quaters as well as locked doors and windows and dont forget the Jack Russels inside the house!!
In my area lately the BGs seems to come into properties in broad daylight......
And to top this off I have also installed MMS type cameras to monitor movement and send me images to enable me to see what triggered the alarm inside the house without me have do the patrolling, this helps with the dogs as well to see if they ok when we are not at home.
Regards

Ok, so far I really like the Predator system that BigHunter suggested. Had a look at Paradox, but a bit pricey.
Now with regards to outdoor passives and beams, which of the two would be better or do they have different purposes?
Thanks for all the help and replies so far.

Re: Alarm system - Advice please
I think outdoor passives will give you a lot of false alarms. Why else would beams exist?
