Default Re: Alarm system - Advice please

Hello MAB, I thought of the same think last night, I wonder if I must not first concentrate on the outside, but the problem is that we are being pushed by the insurance to either have gates and BG bars in front ofall opening doors and windows, or we must get a alarm system that is linked to armed response. They gave us 30 days to do either.

To answer your question, I basically have no choice, I will have to concentrate on the house alarm first before beams outside.

My question: Can any alarm system I buy (Be it a Predator, or from Cellsecure, IDS etc etc) be linked to a armed response company? I cant find this info on their websites. Also, there are 4 672 different units to choose from, I have never been this confused in my life, and. I will install the system myself, no problem. My thoughts are to get somethin decent and also something that have enought zones for adding on later. We bought this house now and are planning to stay there until we retire, thus upgrades etc will follow and there must be room for this.

I thought the best would be to place detectors ons every single window in the house, but yesterday I read of someone here on the forum who suggested to put beams where there are windows, witch in a way makes sense, if he wants to enter through the window the beams will be activated. Ons thing about beams that bothers me is false alarms, I dont know where the alarms sounds (In or outside your house???) but if I get a few false alarms I will be that person that deactivates it after a while (I think your neighbours will also get mad at you if your alarm sounds every morning at 01:00).

Sorry for the book I'm writing, but I need some help on this.

My last question: If I buy one of the systems mentioned on this forum, will this be a better system that the armed response guys use?? They never give you the name or make of the system.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

PS: Maybe it will help if some of you give us a idea of what system you have installed and if it is working for you/what you will add/what you will take away etc.

Most alarms systems can be connected to a radio link company. They come and install their radio transmitter on your board and you pay rental/monitoring fee every month.

I'm happy with the info I've gotten on the Predator system, so now I just want some opinions on the following two:

So far I like option 2 more, basically because of the four different "stay" profiles that can be created, not to sure if option 1 offers the same.

To those in the know, please look at these two options and point out any uncompatible parts, or anything that I neglected to add. Suppose that I will have to look at wiring and power supplies/backups??

    Option 1

    Hi Rambo

    maybe this will help.

Get a Paradox SP6000 full kit which consists of (8 zone panel exp. to 32,32zone keypad,2x passives,2xmags,2 x fixed panics, transformer and battery) this will satisfy your insurances' minimum requirements. if you paying more than R3000.00 installed, you being ripped off.

then as finances recover, you get DG85 or NV780 depending on vegetation, pool area and overall habitat. At the same time as the beams you will have to get remote transmitters and receivers to arm and disarm, maybe a ZX8 expansion module depending on the amount of beams and finally some strip barrier beams for the windows.

now the alarm is done you would want to add some features.
add a PGM4 expansion so that you can connect outdoor flood lights to work with the alarm.
add a IP100 and connect it with your home Internet and you will have to download a app called IPARADOX and you will have full access to your alarm from anywhere in the world on any apple or android device.

what all this means is that when someone access the property, the lights activate with the alarm and if you domestic leaves during the day, she can call or sms you and you will be able to arm/disarm/stay arm/bypass/partition/switch on lights.

    hope this helps.

Paradox is the only alarm system sold and supported on every continent in world and there is a very good reason for that.

Hondo, please let us know where to get the Paradox you recommend, as well as all the extras to expand it. What you described is pretty much what I'm looking for, short of the internet module. What would a complete system like that set you back?

Here is what I found with my alarm system after I bought it:
Get a LCD keypad. LED not user friendly and complex to configure.
Get a remote that can give you the "arm" status. Currently I have a LED indicating the status. Guess the guy on the street will eventually figure out what it is for.

I also want to upgrade my system with all of those goodies listed in the previous posts. I have a texecom. Programed it myself.

Janplank, the remote you are talking about, is this the remote you use to activate the alarm from (for example) outside your house when leaving??

I recently bought Paradox stuff from Shop4Security (S4S). I don't know if they do installations as well.

    @Rambo, yes, that is right.

Also check shop.pgprojects.co.za. They are in krugersdorp and sell a variety of systems.
