    Default Advice on Bow

    Hi Guys,

Quick question: I'm looking for a entry level bow for a 16 year old Female. I know sweet F'All about Bows so I'm completely in the dark on this one and need HELP!

To give you guys an idea of what i'm dealing with, She has never shot a bow before just seen vid's of people shooting them and grown an interest in to it. Her 16th birthday is coming up this month and I think it would be a cool gift for her.

It's for the Girlfriends younger sister, so i kinda can't skimp on the gift too much (Brownie points = more shooting range time and shooting toys for me).

Budget is R1000. (But these dam bows look Frigging expensive )

    Thanks

Good to hear she has an interest however even a "cheap" make traditional bow will set you back alot more, then you also need to buy arrows.Arrows start at about R65 for a entry level type. You might have to look at used equipment.

If you looking at a compound bow a R1000 is not going to cut it.

You looking at about R2500 for a secondhand setup like a Mission Craze or something similiar.

With that you should get arrows, release, etc. ready to start shooting.

Not for hunting or target archery.

Look at the Genesis - by Matthews. They aimed at the school type shooting. Its a sort of compound/traditional combination - very good for entry level shooting and not critical for draw length and stuff. Get somebody to show her how to shoot or join a club. A Genesis kit with arrows and accessories is about R2k but shop around too for second hand sets. As the kids become more serious they move onto the more sophisticated compound set-ups. If she finds she doesn't like archery after a couple of weeks - there is always a ready market to take it off your hands again.
