    Default A few questions

Good one and all, yesterday I handed in my application for my first firearm, so excited!
Any ways I have a couple of questions for anyone who is willing to give some advice. (1911 owners )
I am getting a norinco 1911 .45 and I wanted to find out what would be the best carry ammo that will provided the best performance.

I also wanted to find out if the length of the barrel plays a big part in deciding on the type of ammo, cause my barrel is a 4. 25" and I have read up a bit that having ammo that burn a little faster is the better option for performance .

If so could any body tell what ammo should I use?
Is hydro shock ammo legal and would it work well in my norinco?

Any tips (does and don'ts ) for owning a 1911, things like operating and maintaining!

Also where will be the best place to find mags at a good price both 7, 8 and 10 round mags
+A place where I would be able to call to find out about prices fro reloading equipment

If the Norinco is stock, load it with 230 gr ball.

Buy Chip Mcormick power mags. Don't buy 1911 mags on price.

Keep it very well lubricated, with actual firearm lubricant - Slip2000 for instance.

Replace all the springs as soon as you get it, even if it is new. You need to run an 18lbs recoil spring in a Commander.

As soon as you can take it to a pistolsmith to have the extractor fitted - Rescomp for this.

Reloading equipment, you can try a few places:

    http://www.davesheer.com/
    http://www.huntonline.co.za
    http://www.huntersboma.co.za

The list is actually quite endless... and would depend on what brand of reloading equipment you are looking for

@SSP I believe the gun has had some work done but not 100% sure of everything done to it,
where will I be able to get those chip Mcormick power mags and why that instead of lets says the mags for sale at Rescomp?
I planned to take the gun to Rescomp to have a look at it and replace the springs and bushes.could I also ask why an 18lbs recoil spring? and I thought the gun already has an extractor,

Thanks Psychosis the links are very helpful was not sure where to start with the whole reloading thing
