My understanding is that the whole process has been streamlined & is a much easier than it was in the earlier.

Wrt numbers I think it has to do with perception, folks sign up for dedicated with sport or hunting Assoc, because they can see the immediate benefit.

SO it is really an educational/marketing exercise to show folks the benefits of being a collector (aside from the fun it is.)

SAAACA generally works pretty hard with candidates to help them work out what their theme is or should be. SAAACA appears to understand that people who are only starting out sometimes have some difficulty figuring out for themselves how to define their interest areas. On the interviews, while they can be pretty thorough, it really is very unusual for somebody not to be accepted as a member. This is particularly so in light of the new Category D.*

All I can say is that if you want to become a collector, apply and if you need help, ask for it and it will almost certainly be forthcoming.

Maybe worth popping into the war museum this weekend and meeting some of the people.

Then find out when they meet again and apply. You going to need two members to second you and sign on the application.
