Regarding knives.

So what do you take with you on a hunting trip? Thors' hammer? Kukiri? Rambo special? Or Chris Reeves survival knife?
Nowdays its a little linerlock made by Buck which is my companion. Oh, and there is a Leatherman in my rucksack, never leave home without it.
So lets hear what's your poison, not what you would like to have, but what you actually carry in the veld.

all I could find were post regarding sd/combat knives, not hunting knives per se. Skinners, gutting knives etc. is what I'm asking about.

I take a Muela Sioux-10G and a Kershaw Vapor II folder. The one is for slitting and gutting, the other is for oranges and biltong...

As a PH I use Brusletto knives. I find they sharpen easily and stay sharp for some time.

Up until recently my hunting knife was a CRKT Apache (folder). Not really a hunting knife but it did service like a charm. Didn't get slippery when covered in blood 'n sh1t and allowed me to cut 'n slice with ease and sharpened quick 'n easy. I'll miss that knife... lost it during a hunt last month :'(

I'm thinking now of going back to a fixed blade style knife. The D.O.W. range of hunting knives are amazingly cheap and do the job. And because they're so cheap if you lose one or break one, it won't be a train smash! If not a D.O.W. I'm going back to an Okapi! ;D

I'm playing with the idea of having a knife made to my liking. I'm having one made for my old man next year, so might as well, I guess...

Yeah BB and Thomas I hear what you're saying. When I'm all grown up I'd like to have myself a knife made custom. Damascus steel, half serration, forefinger groove and quillon, gentle thumbrise, copper bolsters, no more than a 4" drop point blade, mammoth ivory grips and a fine elephant hide sheath (unclear on the sheath but it's what I want... OK!). But fer huntin'... that's a workin' blade. Used to open beer bottles, pry open jaws, hack at ribs, slice BT, clean my toe-nails and stir the potjie. I don't want to have to wince everytime my prize knife takes a nick. Going with the D.O.W. / okapi for now...
