Calling all experts and backyard motormacks
Good day gents
Hope somebody can help me.
I drive a 07 Ford Focus 2.0TDCI.
A while ago the airbag light started to come on/go off everytime the car was washed.
Ford said sure we can find the fault....for R500 an hour.
Anyhow, Google set me free and I pulled out the plug under passenger seat and put it back...Bobs your auntie light goes off. So anytime it happned I just did exactly that. No issues.
Recently that stopped working and the light stays on. I checked all the fuses and they are fine.
Does anybody have any other ideas that does not include the Stealers? I'm pretty sure its under the passenger seat. I don't want to spend huge money that I don't have for a faulty connection.
Thanks

Re: Calling all experts and backyard motormacks
I have my Focus ST serviced at Coachmans in Centurion. They have a website, give them a call.

But I know one thing that never dies,
the glory of the great dead.

Find and join a good Ford forum on the web and ask your question there. I have done the same with a number of cars over the years and I have found the help from deep knowledge enthusiasts to be absolutely invaluable.

That happens to be a problem on the Isuzu's as well. What the dealers done to sort out the airbag light was to ty-wrap the two halves of the connector together.
However, with all the fiddling on that plug I wouldn't be surprised if the wiring at the contacts has broken off by now. Have a close look at it, if that's the case either eliminate the connector altogether by soldering the wires or fitting a new connector.
Good luck

Indeed while it does just sound like a faulty wiring connection to me, it is a life saving device so, you know what they say, how much is your life worth to you.

Thanks very much gents. My gut for what it worth also says its the connections. I will take it to a auto elect to test the connection. Should be to hard to find a replacement plug.

Re: Calling all experts and backyard motormacks
It is the connector. Unless the tabs are very clean and make perfect contact the ECU will display an error.
The system works by sending digital pulses through the wire along with the regular 12 volts to power the device. Once the ECU logs a few missing return pulses the system will display an error.
If the contacts in the connector are not bright and shiny that would be your problem. Any layer of corrosion however slight will cause these kind of errors. You can get electrical contact cleaner in a spray can. Spray the connectors contacts and get them real clean. Then you need to coat them with dielectric grease then connect it back up. You can get both of those items at auto part stores.
The coating of dielectric grease will prevent moisture or atmospheric corrosion from occurring.
My Dodge truck had this problem. The "lamp out light" came on telling me a tail light or brake light was out but they all were working.
The error light wouldn't have been a big deal except they made the seat belt ringer chime at the same time.
After pulling every tail and brake light out and cleaning them it made the error go away.
If cleaning the connector doesn't work it means the airbag module has failed. But that is very rare.
