.303 Sights Instruction help
Hi Gents
Many moons ago my dad bough one of those military surplus .303's for R36 still wrapped in grease.
As I was tinkering with it I noticed it has a iron flip up sight with a turning screw. The turning screw moves a sight up and down in clicks. There are numbers on next to the sight.
Now my knowledge of rifles are quite limited. I can't figure out how to use these sight propperly. Is it in meters/feet/yards/stone throws/verspoeg?? Also how to you set it up, what part of what needs to line up where according to the numbers?
I tried Google but no joy.
Thanks gents

Re: .303 Sights Instruction help
My .303 was R31. And the price included 1,000 rounds of ammo. Most of which I pulled the bullets and burned the powder for fun, before I knew how much the ammo was worth, mind you.
Anyhow, the actual distance is in yards (on mine, anyway), and it's obviously calibrated roughly for 174gr military rounds. I'd not rely on it though, it proved VERY inaccurate with reloads when I visited the range the other day. I'll have to set the sights from scratch, as I can't find military ammo to save my life. Hell, I wish I could get my hands on some... :(

Re: .303 Sights Instruction help
Thanks I just had a look.
The numbering goes from 2-14. And there is a capital F on top of the "frame" for the screw and sight. Does the F mean Feet?
How would I use it?

Re: .303 Sights Instruction help
No idea, sorry. Mine is indicated in "M" and "Y", meaning both "Meters" and "Yards" if I'm not mistaken. I'm also not capable of really shooting that well with the iron sights to really see a good group and if the variance is to be attributed to my skill (or lack thereof) or the rifle/ammo/sights. I DO know that iron sight shooting is a damn impressive art, though.

Re: .303 Sights Instruction help
The idea with the battle sights are that from 0-200 you use the open sights. My guess is that the flip-up sight is calibrated from 200 to 1400 yards.

Re: .303 Sights Instruction help
on my P14 the battle sight is zeroed at 400 yards and as such i need to use the flip up sights to shoot 100m, 200m etc.
Have tried 300 meter at sports adventure shooting and even at that distance the front sight obscures most of the target. So I have no idea how you manage 1km!
