Inherited Items - Info Requested/Identification
Attachment 9471Attachment 9472Attachment 9473Attachment 9474Attachment 9475
My Grandfather passed away last month and left me these items. I doubt they worth anything, however the have sentimental value to me. Can anyone tell me anything about them? Is the Ammo Box Rhodie? The FN FAL looks like a paper weight, bronze or copper. I have 2 of them.
Thanks

Re: Inherited Items - Info Requested/Identification
I am very sorry to hear about your grandfather. These things are always very sad and represent the end of an era. The ammunition box looks like a standard South African Defence Force ammunition box from the period when the R1 rifle was still in common use. Later they shifted to plastic boxes.
The other two items are, I think, paperweights as you say. Albeit interesting ones.

Re: Inherited Items - Info Requested/Identification
Thanks WZ. I wonder how he came across an SANDF Ammo Box. They moved here around 80/81, so maybe after that. I know the FN FAL were from Rhodesia, as my mom remembers them! The old man always would say, thats the rifle i had in the Army!
Either way they pretty cool keepsakes!
