Default 1911 Deep Clean with ultrasonic cleaner

Evening everyone just got a lyman ultrasonic cleaner today.
I was interested to know if you could put your FA in there ?
i heard you could but do not want to take a chance.
    It's a colt series 80 9mm government stainless steel .
what solution would you use if it was possible ?
would you also need to detail strip it to do so
and what parts would you not put in there, would you only put in the frame and the slide ?

    Thanks
    Jason

Jason, I put my glocks, rifle bolts, mags etc in, no problem! Just field strip, clean, rinse with water, and dry straight away(I use compressed air). Then make sure u lube up!

Thanks a lot Edwill appreciate the feed back so I don't need to take out the firing pin and the sear springs and all that stuff ? Just take the slide off the frame and put in the cleaner ? Springs and all

That's how I do it, just check that you don't get any big "gunk" that's moved from somewhere. I blow out with compressed air, lube and good to go!

Ultra sonic manuals states that you should not use flammable liquids in them. But use benzene(there are two benzene and benzine one is very poisonous. But the one you can buy in builders warehouse is ok.) Take a container that fits inside the sonic fill container with benzene and sonic with water. Put container in water filled sonic and buzz away.
Benzene disolves all the old lube and evaporates when parts are left to stand and dry. Old watchmakers used it but with different machine.
    So no contact with water.

Be carefull when using benzene. Rather use Parafine or Diesel. Benzene will clean and will remove all traces of oil, but will also attack the metal parts causing premature wear on the working parts.
Parafine and Diesel is oil-based and cannot cause harm to metal parts. You can also use a water based solvent, but make sure to rinse with clean water and dry it out as quickly as possable. Compressed air works great to dry out your metal parts.

Thanks again for all the advice everyone. I'm still a bit skeptical about putting my baby in there so I will give it some time before I decide, for now I will use it for my brass and take it from there .

Use the standard cleaning solution and pop it in there. It's perfectly safe! I am thinking of tossing my CZ 85 in there are well some time soon. Simply because I bought it second hand and only cleaned the visible things outside and in before. I want to see what comes out of there!
