LOL I can respect that. One thing that would've been very nice if they modified them to semi-auto only and sold them off to the public. 120 000 weapons @ R3000 (which I'm sure people would have paid gladly at the time) would've meant a cool R360mil into state coffers and a better armed population who would've trusted the government just that much more...

They did it with the .303s...

They shipped the parts over to the US, and sold them as kits. Putting them back together with a new semi auto receiver and new barrel is very popular over here.

Errm, no they weren't. Operation Mouflon (another UN initiative) is what it was code named and they were chopped up. The chopping was paid for by ... Hmmm, the Danish IIRC.

I also distinctly remember them making a big media bruhaha about destroying over 120 000 of the rifles, they didn't mention selling anything. Can't think which is worse - the government destroying weapons that would have been extremely useful not even 10 years later, or selling even a single one to a foreign citizen without giving it's own citizens the same offer.

    Thanks a**holes!

I though SAPS was in the process of replacing their service pistols with the Beretta PX4 Storm. On Carte Blance last night they showed some footage (from a head-cam or something) from Marikana and that officer was definitely pointing a PX4.

I know they purchased about 4000 for a trail run, but I don't think they're going to replace them all anytime soon.

Who cares where the SAPS and SADF are getting guns. They are just the middlemen. ;-)
