    Yip, that's a bolt action.

I wouldn't trust it on anything bigger than impala / blesbok. Not enough oomph. My 2 cents

agree that small case luancing that diameter of a bullet, maybe depends on the wieght of the bullet but yes i'll say it's a bit tooooooooooo..... SMALL in the case department, maybe go up to a 63mm case wich is a .30-06 then your set.

    my 2c...

Actually a new Howa is about 6.5k. Shop around, there are bargains to be had.

In particular the weight of the rifle, a heavier 300 win mag should theoretically have less recoil than a lighter one, right? What is the general feel regarding the weight of rifles? Obviously you have to lug the weapon around in the bush if you want to shoot something with it, but at the same time a heavier rifle (and barrel) will have less recoil and be more accurate (to my limited knowledge). So do you strive for a happy middle way, or do you go for the extreme ends of the spectrum and compromise?

Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. I have a 243 and am looking now for a rifle for long range shooting up to Kudu and was considering 7mm Rem Mag, 30-06, 300 H&H, 300 Win Mag and 308 Norma Mag. Although I suspect the Norma's ammunition may be more of a problem...
look at the 338 win mag
