Default So what about an SR 556?

Will the Ruger AR clone get a State Dept export license?

Anyone have an inside-track on whether Guns and Bows or VLT have tried to bring one in?

I have emailed G&B and am awaiting an answer, but VLT's mail bounces.

I really, REALLY like the gas piston and the adjustable gas port (brings back fond memories of my trusty old R1).

Imo (formed by advice from my very reliable contact inside the industry in the US and by 2 apps by distributors here in SA already declined by the DoS in the last couple of months) export of Mil/LE type Semi Auto rifles from the USA for commercial resale here, is not going to happen.

For the same reason we don't find any new Ruger mini 14's for sale in this country.

And most probably why we can't get decent U.S ammo here either...

If we look at the big picture we see that SA is starting to get the wrong kind of reputation abroard. From our corrupt Home Affairs Dept that allows international criminals and terror suspects to come here and obtain new identities and documents and then travel to countries where they would otherwise be not welcome, to the latest Arms sales revelations that have been in the news for the last couple of weeks where SA is seen to be selling arms to every tyrant this side of the north pole. It is no wonder that the US would like to limit what comes here. The way they see it, if the stuff comes here then it will not be long before it ends up in the hands of the US's enemies.
