Robbery at The Grove, armed shop keeper defends himself
Robbers leave shop empty-handed
ROBBERS had to leave a jewellery store empty-handed yesterday when the owner of the shop started firing shots at them.
14 March 2013 | ELAINE SWANEPOEL

“An armed man entered the store Francois’ Jewellery in The Grove Shopping Centre in Pretoria yesterday around 11.45am, pulled out a firearm and informed the two shop assistants and two customers that ‘this is a robbery’,” police spokesman Captain Jan Sebato said.
Two other men entered the shop and ordered the staff to open the jewellery counters .
According to Sebato, the owner saw what was happening on CCTV cameras in his office at the back of the store, came out with a firearm and fired a shot into the air.
The robbers shot back at him and he retreated into his offices.
“The robbers ran out of the shop, where another two suspects were waiting outside. One of the suspects was hit in the lower body as the shop owner kept firing at them.
The suspects kept on firing more shots once outside the shopping centre, damaging cars in the parking lot and escaped from the scene in a white Condo,” Sebato said.
Nothing was taken from the shop and no injuries were reported. Sebato added the police cannot rule out the possibility of the suspects being the same men who robbed a jewellery store in Menlyn Shopping Centre last week.

"One of the suspects was hit in the lower body"
"No injuries were reported"
I like!
Shop owner is a bloody good example of why people should carry. I did not know The Grove is a firearm-allowing mall. It seems that whole area is a bit more firearm-allowing. Menlyn mall also removed their signs a while back. Two thumbs up!

Except for the idiotic shot in the air, the man did well.

Scary shit but ends well. Good going Francois, first mover is always a winner. Both these malls are 5kms from my place. Gotta be much more vigilant than usual when taking the family out nowadays. What still amuses me is that every now and then my boys will ask me why I carry when they see me strapping it on, even the wife chips in from time to time. Well, they don't read the newspapers nor read this site.
