The loops, vertical stand and legs can be made out of mild steel, the plates I would get lazer cut out of ar500 type steel. (there are companies who sell you the steel by the kg, cut to your drawings)

PM me if you would like the autocad file for the plates..
Where in Gauteng can I buy and have ar500 cut?

Let's wake this one up again.
Does anybody have some plans for a decently working DIY duelling tree? Thanks

I made a small one for 22 and a bigger one for handgun shooting. Both work really nice. DM me for a picture or two and a video of how they operate then you can decide if it is worthwhile to copy.

Seem they only show 1 at a time, the plates are 150mm vrn500 and no bolts or anything else that can deflect lead in the wrong direction sticks out on the side of the angle. The whole angle with the plates can swiwel on the base to change the gravity vector of the plates. This help to tune the tree to the loads that are shot.

    Well done.
What securing clips did you use for the main pins? Circlips or are they loose drop in pins kept in place by their own weight with the target plates?

The vertical angle iron looks around a 5mm x 50mm of is it larger?

I gather that you have a large profile reverse V shaped base for stability?

Update: J saw the subsequent pics after posting.

The angle is quite big, it is around 75 x 8mm. The pivot pins are 20mm diameter, tapped on one end and then bolted through the 10 mm square plates welded inside the angle. The plates have a 1" pipe with 5mm flat bars welded to the pipe, one with clearance holes, the other one tapped. The two flat bars welded to the pipe then sandwiches the plates and gravity keeps the ketoet together and prevents the plates from rising out of the pins. The base is as you said an inverted V shape of 50 x 3 square tubing, so it is quite heavy to move but it stands nice and steady. If you want to send a DM with your number I can send you some videos of how the dueling tree operates.
