    Default DIY Dualing Tree

    Good day all

Has anyone attempted to build their own dualing tree? I have found various designs and of the lot this design seems to be the best so far(Some are extremely crude). Is there any reason to indicate that this would be a bad idea? Now my biggest hurdle would be my lack of metal working skills.

Any thoughts? Hope every one has a great weekend.

I have drawn up the plate and loops for a duelling tree, although I never got round to building more than a prototype.

The loops, vertical stand and legs can be made out of mild steel, the plates I would get lazer cut out of ar500 type steel. (there are companies who sell you the steel by the kg, cut to your drawings)

PM me if you would like the autocad file for the plates..

The problem I have with their design is that they have welded on the plates which is a KAK idea.

There is not point in having hardened steel for plates and then welding brackets onto them. They will ALWAYS break at the weld and you will spend your life repairing them.

Excuse my ignorance as I have never used one of these. The problem with welding you mention, is it at this point as in the picture?

Yes, where the plate is welded onto the square tube

Looks like a good setup, as for the welding problem, would some sort of bolt on kit work? make a bracket on the square tubing so the paddle gets bolted to it, that way you just need to tighten a couple of nuts? Or would that create more problems than it attempts to cure?

And sorry if that was a totally stupid question, I'm relatively new to metal working and the biggest thing I've made was a feeder for sheep lol

If you take the plate design to one of the plough board manufacturers they can cut it, weld it and then harden it for you. These plates do show some cratering but they will last a livetime. Then the welding should not be a problem and the costs should also be less.

A deuling tree is going to be my next project.
