SCHMEISSER M5
Hi
This is my first post on GS, hope I'm doing it right!
I finaly got my M5 with mid length gas system and A2 front site last week. Managed to get all the Magpul stuff and Leopold Prismatic bolted on before the weekend and shot the SADPA rifle classifier on Saturday. I have fired a few other AR's over the last year . . . (I have a habbit of bugging people till they let me shoot their toys). Comparing the AR's I have had the pleasure of shooting previously to the Schmeisser, I can only say this: Be jealous, be VERY jealous! IMO it is worth every cent of the considerable asking price.
Up to last week I was an AK desciple, but I am now a lot more tollerant of non AK designs. (Sorry Thorkind)
The differance between my Type 56 and the Schmeisser is the same as the difference between Datsun and Infinity, not that I will EVER get rid of my Datsun.

Re: SCHMEISSER M5
Schmeisser is a rifle that is put together with meticulous attention to detail; for those with refined tastes. It is only if you have both examples of the breed that you can appreciate their respective strengths.

Re: SCHMEISSER M5
I've never thought of myself as having refined taste. But yes these guns are obviously made by by Germans (As in anal about quality control) I have only handled one other Schmeisser besides mine and all too briefly. On mine it looks as if they even "clocked" the barrel, ie. the gasport is centred between the lands, in the middle of a groove. I dont know if it just came out like that or if the builders are actualy drilling them all like that, would like to hear from other owners . . .
As for the whole AK vs AR debate: I will probably need a high-end AK and an entry level AR next in order to keep things unbiased and fair to all those affected by these things and in the interest of seeking the truth. I hope the Registrar will understand my dilemma.
