To give better advice we will need more info.

Do you intend to carry every day? Or is it going to be a safe gun which comes out at night?

Things like that will influence advice rendered.

Go to a gun shop closest to you that has a range.

Shoot as many guns as you can. And find one that feels the best for you in your hands.

    If you want new.
The Taurus PT24/7 OSS sells for just under R6000 IMO its a good SD gun ''my uncle got his about a year ago an still raves about it''

Bwahahahahahahahaha  happy0065 ain't that the truth.  ihlobo, as per camo, I suggest you change your username to mary, jane or kathy and repost your original question.  I guarantee a warm and rapturous response!

Failing that you need to provide a better profile (protection against what? armed robbers, car-jackers, hyenas, zombies?), budget, why you need a gun and what you intend using it for?  If you need a gun, as you say, that "works anywere and everwere"  (and if you're on a tight budget with little time available for training) then dare I say a revolver in .38 or .357 may be your answer.  You will find such guns in cheap abundance.  Buy the best you can afford and get the most training you can with the money left over.  And whatever is left over after that get some decent ammunition.
