Hey guys I need some advice as to what books I should get regarding firearms, I know quite a bit about guns but not enough so I want to read a book that can teach me quite a few things! What can you guys recommend?

1. Gerry Gore: Handguns for self defence.
2. Dave Arnold:Shoot a Handgun
These books were written before the advent of the Glock.

I would agree with 30.06. See if you can beg,borrow or steal anything by Jeff Cooper particularly Principles of Personal Defence.

Start with Jeff Cooper on SD;
Talk to specops people about accuracy, shooting people and handgun calibre choice. (They know what really works!)
Search the web for technical details.
Manuals do not explain the working of a FA, but "mechanical" manuals do. They usually contain history which explains the evolving of the specific brand or model.

Nice so you mean I should download a mechanical manual for each of my guns?

There was no pun intended, but if possible, why not? I understood that you are generally interested in FA's in which case one good book on ie Mauser Broomhandles would be ideal to cover that family and a book on leveractions would cover them. That would eventually lead to a general but thorough knowledge of FA's. In which specific FA's are you interested?

Re: Good books on guns for newbies to learn from
If you are looking for books that deal with situations & violence & skills and such I can recommend the following I have read:
Facing Violence by Rory Miller
Gift of Fear by Gavin de Becker
Home Invasion by Dr Rudolf Zinn
The Art of Modern Gunfighting by Scott Reitz
And there are few book lists in this old thread I found that I am working through (via the library for now, might purchase if I find gems):

Disclaimer: I have no experience in gun fighting or any kind of police/military work -- just working on training myself up...
