Default Position of H1 on shottie.

Need some advise from the Guru's.

Had a rail put on my 1300 Defender so that I can mount an H1 on there.
Here's the trick. I want to put the H1 behind the ejection port so that I would still be able to chuck rounds into the chamber over the gun when I run her empty so that it is not in the way.
Would it effect accuracy regarding parallax if is that far back or any other drawbacks?

    Danks.

No guru and no it will not have an effect on accuracy or parallax imo.

Best place to put it imo is on a Benelli M2

Cant deny that a Benelli M2 would be a awesome place to put it.
    Thanks for the feedback.

if memory serves, the reciever starts to taper down a little the further back you go, obviously whoever mounted the rail compensated for that?

would you mind posting a pic of the rail?

did you drill and tap the reciever?

It will not affect the parallax, and the further back a dot is, generally the quicker transition from target to target is.

    Generally.

Why do you say it provides quicker transition from target to target?

Split times when shooting drills. Suggested by another topic on another forum about the "correct placement of a red dot sight".

I asked if there was such a thing, thinking there wouldn't be and I was told that bit of information and told to test it out.

I was also sent in the direction of this article:

Marginally faster, but that can count in both competition and combat. The times inside of 25 yard were very very close (we're talking thousandths here) and I guess that's what most will consider the sweet spot for the shotgun anyway, but I thought I'd just mention it to help ease the OP's conscience. Outside of 25 it was into the hundredths, so maybe more useful on a rifle?

Maybe I should have said general dot acquisition times? But I noticed it mostly when transitioning.

The thing is that you get 10 people saying that it is faster and 10 that says it's not - which group is right?

Everyone should experiment for himself to see what works best.

Just about nobody who shoots really well runs a red dot on an AR for example on the rear of the upper receiver. Most run it about 1/3 from the front and much more to the front than to the rear.

If I had the time I could compile you a yard long list of those shooters.

Just about nobody shoots the V-tac 2x2x2 dril faster than Kyle Lamb. He runs his optic/dot forward. The excersize is one of the very best tests of tracking, transitioning and trigger work.

The biggest factor in transition from target to target and placing zero down shots are the shooters ability to look and focus on the next target even before his rifle leaves the previous target and the ability to get onto the next target very fast and not to overshoot the target when coming up on it. The placing of the dot on the rifle does not feature there imo.

Placing an optic on the rear of the receiver on a shotgun makes sense if the forward position will interfere with manipulation and reloading preferences.

For me having an optic close to my eye on the rear of the receiver is much more obtrusive than having it forward. I guess if you shoot in a bladed stance and not more square on having the optic to the rear would have the same effect as a forward mount and square on stance.

Granted there is probably such a thing as too close.
