Need some advice

I'm looking to get another primary carry knife but a folding knife........which is better a liner lock or a frame lock?

Hi Bladebabe For a normal cutting or stabbing knife a liner lock or frame lock is sufficient to perform the task. But for a self defense knife i prefer a fixed double sided blade knife as there inst always time to fumble around trying to get the blade open and you want to cause as much damage in the shortest amount of time.

While a fixed blade is quicker to access and deploy,the question was re folders.
My primary is a fixed,single edged,as in my experience,i slash more than thrust,and this blade isn't as "frightening" as a double edged blade.my primary is not an inadequate thruster though.

I think a good frame lock is much stronger than a liner lock. Does that mean a liner lock is not adequate? I don't know but I doubt it!

compression lock(my favorite) and back lockare also good, all locks for that matter are dependent on manufacturer in my opinion. Would I rather have a no name or a spyderco or ZT?

Whatever your choice make sure you get the best knife by a reputable maker that you can afford. Spyderco Delica or Endura come to mind, affordable but WELL made.

I prefer CRKT's liner lock with extra security lock because a rather cheap standard liner lock once closed on my fingers when I was butchering a fatty pig. Prefer liner lock to frame lock because it maintains the whole frame of the knife. Take a good brand name; cheap knives usually give cheap service and often do not stay sharp, except Victorinox and Opinel Carbon. Kershaw and Buck have some really nice "slimline" folders with superb steel.

Very personal statement: I do not like Kershaw; it's too much about image: race a BMW, show off with expensive clothes, own a Glock, possess a Kershaw and have blonde GF. (For obvious reasons this does not apply to all, please dont put on the shoe if it doesnt fit)

My reasoning behind frame lock is that when gripping the knife your hand actually forces the lock in place and prevents it from slipping out or failing.

added to that most frame locks are 2 or 3 mm titanium or similar. Super strong!

but as I said earlier: a well made liner lock is PLENTY strong!

Get a cold steel with a tri-ad lock. I believe that they are some of the strongest knife locks on the market. I have the cold steel AK47 mini and the lock is super strong. Let me try and get a video on youtube.. Hold on!
