Yes, I've read it is quite possible with MP200 and heavy bullets. Remember something like 9 gr being mentioned. Probably safer to start higher and work your way down - you don't want to get a stuck bullet with a load that is too low.

    I used 8gr in a 24 inch barrel.

And the sound of the bullet hitting the ground, 40 yards in front of you.

It's not that bad ;-) Has a serious trajectory, but its not made to shoot gongs at 1000yards. IMO subsonics have their place.

Bullet selection must be a criteria. I would think a thin jacket like a match grade would be a preferable choice over a premium bonded bullet - the risk with subsonic is the bullet not having sufficient velocity to perform as expected on impact.

Why - WTF for. Its dangerous enough with a .308. Just buy a .22. You have no momentum on a already limited weapon, and a rather serious bottle neck case using tiny amounts of powder. Everything you need for a sooner or later F/Up on a pretty useless end result cartridge.

Sorry, you are not making sense. Subsonic 243 will be awesome for night culling or introducing new shooters.

kaspas, - this is not a claim as expert, just a claim to have done it - more than once. As per my .308 and 458 subsonic threads and plenty $$$ thrown in. Sub sonic loading can be risky - IMO the more overbore the more so and the smaller the increment of load the more so too. 1gr in a 10 gr load is ten% to much or too little. My next statement -was in regard to terminal ballistics. When using a .308 subsonic -170 to 220gr - The .458 at 350 to 500gr bullet you still have a lot of grains moving along to defy tissue and bone. The .243 using a ??? what perhaps you can stabilise a 90 or 100gr bullet, what penetration you expecting at 1000fps. So in my honest opinion, you going to have as you say a rainbow trajectory, which will make exact bullet placement the work of art or a expert with many hrs - you will then have to place that bullet exactly in spine or skull every time and achieve it with a bullet that was designed to be small and make up for that smallness with speed which you have jus removed from the equation. Perhaps the equivalent of a 6.35 pistol for culling. Deep penetrating bullets will not penetrate enough and will have no expansion and frangible bullets will be frangible to shallow if the even function. scratch up my subsonic stuff and .458 2" observations. Animals do die - make no mistake, but they die from being shot - not get killed by the shot(just a way of putting it) - like most bow hunting shots. We have tried .458 and .308 on Blesbuck Monkey Baboon, Bush pig and poacher dogs(nother story).A big heavy bullet ploughing along perhaps on specialised applications, but unless you want to cull Springhaas close to your house a litte 6mm 90gr bullet should not be used on game. Culling is a very precise application job. The dangers of subsonic shooting - especially at night with bullets stuck in barrels a possibility and so forth, just seem to make it try it if you want, but not think of it as a usable hunting tool. and for teaching kids first timers - why not just downloadplenty, and not expose a newby to a unrealist and potentially dangerous situation. Make any sense ?

I still don't see the risk if proper and safe load development is done, starting at a suitably high load and carefully working your way down while using a dacron filler. A 100 gr 6mm projectile moving at 1000 fps will have much more punch than a 40 gr .22 bullet! You just have to realise the limitations.
