MP200 use in modern inline muzzleloaders??
I have heard a rumour that certain folk have been experimenting in this regard as a replacement for BP!Can anyone confirm this? That is if they have survived!

Re: MP200 use in modern inline muzzleloaders??
Do a search on how many Damascus barreled shotguns (BP Only) have been blown up by using modern smokeless cartridges, and you should begin to understand why this is Not a good idea...
But then again I have heard of some who mix a small amount of modern smokeless powder with BP to increase the burn rate - dabble in that black art at your own risk though...

Kinda must set camera up before trying situation - cause you just know sooner than later you gonna have a candid moment.

Re: MP200 use in modern inline muzzleloaders??
I'm by no means an expert, but I think that most people attach a mystical power to BP and smokeless powder.
Firstly BP is explosive and adding smokeless powder would probably decrease burn rate as the modern powders have controlled burn rates. Using smokeless powder in a muzzle loader could possibly give good results due to the slower burn rate. What would make it risky is the fact that the powder is compressed and not loose as in a cartridge as well as the high energy in modern powders.
There are risks involved in trying anything different.
If you want to try something different, you need to understand that there are risks involved. Most of the risks are manageble with a careful and scientific approach. If you don't know what you are doing then you should not do it.
proceed at your own risk, bla bla bla . have video

Yip. Stupidity still seems to be legal in this country. BP and smokeless powder do not mix. If they mix, then it can only be with catastrophic consequences.

Re: MP200 use in modern inline muzzleloaders??
I too was 'scared' but googled the subject nevertherless.
Guess what I found - SAVAGE M10ML - specificaly built for smokeless! Huge cost savings, easier cleaning, no smoke to speak of, great accuracy etc. etc.
If I was interested, I would get Mkonto to build a .45 or .50 ML able to withstand smokeless pressures (no biggy!) and go have some fun.
Edited to fix my kak spelling

Re: MP200 use in modern inline muzzleloaders??
The problem with using modern powders iw that they are more efficient and despite the controlled burn rate, the burn rate is progressive in relation to pressure. They are capable of producing much higher pressures.
BP, despite being an explosive with uncontrolled burn rate, is very inefficient and seldom produces pressures in excess of 10 000 psi in traditional muzzleloaders. MP200 can produce 60 000 psi in a modern firearm.
You may get away with it for a while but if if something happens to delay the bullets forward motion then I hope you are wearing good eye protection. And face protection. And arm protection. You get the picture.

Re: MP200 use in modern inline muzzleloaders??
To see a good example of what smokeless powder can do to a modern muzzle loader like the savage M10ML, take a look at the following link I found:
