Cape Town - SAPS flying squad member shot dead another wounded - Nyanga

Two SAPS flying squad members were involved in a shooting in Nyanga near Cape Town airport last night.

Sadly a 38 year old SAPS flying squad member was shot dead :(
RIP - condolences to his family and friends.

His patrol partner was wounded in his upper body and is recovering in hospital.

A SAPS docket has been opened - murder and attempted murder, no arrests have been made by this morning.

Has any particulars been released?
This is the same area where members of the Dog Unit was ambushed many years ago with the same tragic result.

We often highlight corruption & incompetence within the SAPS, but when criminals are willing to kill a Police Officer in uniform it hits home how quickly thing are spiraling out of control.

A police officer has been killed and another wounded in an attack in Nyanga on the Cape Flats.

The two flying squad members were conducting patrols in the township on Monday night when they were attacked.

Police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk says the constables came under fire as they approached a group of suspicious looking men.

The surviving officer was wounded in the left arm and shoulder and is still in Cape Town hospital. Investigations are underway and no arrests have been made. - SABC News
