Reservist intake
Hi guys
For the guys who are interested.
That thread of the shooting in Nyaga reminded me.
I went past our local station last week to enquire about becoming a reservist.
I was informed that they are taking in new guys, the recruitment process has changed and the goal is to get better recruits. The details are being finalised in a meeting this week. For here anyway. It looks like the new intake will be Sept/Okt.
That's all I know for now, as soon as I get some detailed feedback I will post something.
Cool.

Re: Reservist intake
I've been toying with the idea of becoming a reservist but after speaking to a detective at my station, she strongly discouraged me, saying it's too dangerous and you don't get anything out of it.
What are the positives of becoming a reservist?
To those that are reservists, why do you do it?

Re: Reservist intake
iv been a reservist for almost 6 years now. my advice would be that you really need to be doing it for the right reasons. it can be very rewarding however it is a thankless job. the police is a very "interesting" organization for lack of a better word. everything is hurry up and wait. You will not be priority and depending on which station you go to you can be messed around in terms of being able to work shifts and getting vehicles etc. Being a reservist will not give you any advantage to getting firearm licences or getting rid of traffic tickets like some ppl say it would. so if you are ok will all of that then i would definitely suggest becoming a reservist. I have thoroughly enjoyed being an policeman the last few years. I have learnt alot, i have experienced alot and it has made me a stronger more aware person. Yes it can be dangerous but wat isnt know a days. as long as you take your training seriously and when you work on the road you stay aware and remain serious and realistic with the dangerous that are out there. You are correct in it being a compulsory 16hrs a month minimum. which is very easy to attain if you enjoy it. When being a reservist whilst on shift you are the same as a permanent member in the sense that you will wear uniform, work in marked police vehicles, carry a firearm, make arrests from the point of putting on handcuffs, to doing all the paperwork thats involved(which is a fair amount so you cant be scared to do paperwork as everyone will have to do it if you are doing your job properly and making arrests etc.) you will also sometimes be required to go to court as well which of course takes time away from your work. But if you are wanting to help the community and try to make your area safer by doing your part then i would definitely suggest to the right individuals, Become a reservist! :-)
