Robber outgunned in Marlboro

received a nasty
surprise when his
intended victim
pulled out a real gun and fired at him.

According to Bramley police spokesperson,
Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, a motorist was
stopped at a red traffic light at the corner of
Thora Crescent and Marlboro Drive in Marlboro
South, when he was approached by a man who
produced a gun.
The suspect demanded his cellphone and R200
cash. The suspect then tried to get into the
vehicle on the passenger side. The motorist then
stepped out of the car and produced his own
firearm.
He fired a warning shot and the suspect turned
and fled down the road and the motorist gave
chase in his vehicle, said Maphakela. He caught
up with the robber at the corner of 1st Street
and 1st Avenue and pinned him down. With the
help of community members, who also called the
police, the motorist took back his stolen
possessions.
When police arrived on the scene, they
discovered that the firearm the suspect had
been using was in fact a toy. Maphakela said that
it looked exactly like a police service pistol. They
then placed the suspect under arrest and took
him to the Bramley Police Station.
After profiling him, it was found that he was
linked to 16 cases of armed robbery and three
cases of car hijackings in Marlboro South.
