Changing a firearm from self defense to sportin
Good day all.
Im knew to the site, I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm wanting to change my current self defense firearm to dedicated sport shooting.
I've spoken to the DFO who deals with my Firearm licenses and he first told me to do a change in circumstance application, I did it and apparently they can't do it with that application.
I then spoke to a lady in Pretoria, the main office for Firearm capturing, she said I must do a whole knew 271 application. I did this and the DFO says the computer can not capture the information because the current license holder and the knew applicant is the same person.
So after all of this I got another answer from the DFO saying I should do a change in ownership, meaning put the Firearm onto a Gun Dealership name and then do a whole knew 271 application by using the Dealerships name as the License holder.
I'm really unsure on what procedure to follow.
If you can help me in any way, it will be greatly appreciated.
regards,
Dylan

why do you want to change the license type?
1) post an intro
2) use the search function. s13 vs s15/16 has be discussed beyond ad nauseum

License new gun as sport and carry that. Has also been discussed a lot. A gun doesn't have to be on a self defense license in order to use it for carrying or self defense.
Any legal gun, can be used for any legal purpose. You are complicating it for yourself, which might just end up in failure.
Buy new gun, license under sport and use as deemed fit..

Iv thought of that, but say you carry the knew Sporting gun as a everyday gun, and you use in in a gun fight or for self defense, can they not use it against you because its under a Sporting Section? Will they not ask why wasnt I carrying my self defense Gun?

One word: search.

Nope, they won't. You legally use it, there's no restriction and you're free to carry your sport gun just as you can shoot sporting with your SD gun.

Re: Changing a firearm from self defense to sportin
Iv heard from quite a few people though that to carry your Sporting gun you need to have proof of going to and from the shooting range etc..
and it has to stipulate that you were or are on your way to the range etc..
I could do a change in ownership and put it on a Gun Dealersip name and then apply from there, but im scared some how something goes wrong and i lose the gun.
