FN FAL is a winner :)
I have had the privilege of shooting and sighting my FN FAL for the first time last Saturday, and myself and the Pirate went to the long range this afternoon to see how accurate she is at 100m. After getting the iron sights nicely set I managed to consistently hit a paper-plate sized target. The Norinco ammunition is very consistent and accurate, but it is dirty as all f*ck: I ran a brush with solvent through it 4 times separately, about 4 brushings per set, with jags in between and it is still not completely clean. That being said, at R4,50 per round I can hardly complain about putting in some elbow-grease afterwards...the FAL eats Norinco like smarties.
Made an amateur mistake: after last weekend's session I cleaned her thoroughly. Squeezed off the first shot today and *OW!*...I thought that it kicked much harder than before. The rifle also didn't cycle...strange. Cocked it again and squeezed off the second shot *OOOW!*, bloody sore again and the rifle didn't cycle. The cause dawned on me: I looked at the front of the gas port and see it is set to "G" for rifle-grenade...ooops. I mistakenly put it to "G" after reassembling it after last weekend's cleaning. It worked beautifully after that.
Wonderful rifle, wonderful shooting experience, wonderful job done by Panzer Technologies in rebuilding it. I could not be happier with the purchase. Thank you to all involved in making it a reality!

Re: FN FAL is a winner :)
This ones for you Lian.
I also got a 17" Panzer refurbished FN from Paul and i love it. They really did do a top notch job. It's as close to a new rifle that we will get here. I made the same mistake with my gas plug setting just like you did manservant, but they really do shoot nicely and yes that Norinco ammo is dirty, i have also battled getting the barrel clean, but like you say at the price i'm not going to be complaining either, you can't reload for that price.

Re: FN FAL is a winner :)
I believe Hailstorm had some DSA SA58 (or something) FN FAL's at one stage, but those were brand new and considerably more pricey...as in more than double the factory rebuilt ones.
