Yes, many shooters here are running low now, like this guy. Heck, I know guys who barely have 3000-5000 rounds for all the guns they own combined. Still, lots of people saw the handwriting on the wall and stocked up ahead of time. 100,000rd. combined totals are not rare at all here...seriously.

I only wish our idiots in power would get over their draconian regulations.
    200 rounds per firearm? WTF!

Clearly ammo is a lot cheaper in the US. Makes me wonder what PMP's profit margin is

Yes, but dealers are in business to sell ammo and stuff...not to hoard it for the past decade or so like many serious shooters here have. I am not talking about stockpiling for SHTF, but having enough to do recreational shooting for a long time if necessary. Remember, just 20 rounds per week thru, say, one of my Enfield .303's adds up to 1K a year, which is why I wish I could find some more Greek HXP surplus (boxer primed and non corrosive)...I don't shoot them that much these days, but I only have a couple thousand rounds in storage now if I did. For most of the past decade, it has been cheaper to buy surplus or FMJ ammo in bulk (1000rd minimum at a purchase) than to reload if you count your time as having any value at all, and reloading components are now almost as scarce as ammo.

As to profit margins, the margin can go down if the volume goes up. An order for a billion rounds of PMP, or any other loaded ammo, will cost much less per round to buy than one for for 10,000rd...simple. I don't know what you guys pay in SA, but I bought 1000rd of PMP 220gr .45 FMJ a few months back for well under $300 delivered to my door...less than R2400 at a rate of R8 to the dollar. That, of course, included shipping from SA to the distributor I bought it from in the states.

But then, who can figure out car prices in SA either? ;D
