    Default Likkewaan (Rock Monitor)

We found this one while hunting on friday. They are quite common here in the Southern Free State (as are water monitors).

Outstanding specimen, one of my favourite reptiles, love the way the swagger about the bush.
One too many wasted sunsets and one too many for the road .........

Never thought about the swagger bit, but it is certainly very descriptive.

    Double LOL!

Actually the veld-likkewaan we leave alone, but plenty a water-likkewaan has met it's end during our survival trips.
And they often grow to about 2m, a lot of good meat, that rugstrings seems to have no end.

Messor I suspect I'll go hungry quite a lot on one of your 'trips'

    Taste like chicken?

TStone, you are brave to pick it up like that. That mouth looks handy for nipping at appendixes.

Hungry, on my trips, an insult most foul :)

And no, while the meat does have a whitish color to it, once you fry it up it starts looking glossy like pig, tastes like a combination between baber and krokodil.
