Lord of the flies - I don't get it
When I was in school a lot of kids whined that they wanted lord of the flies as a set book in English.
So lying awake one night I decided to download it and read it, to see what they were all on about. Honestly, I don't get it!
The language (being published in 1954) was fine, just took some getting used to.
But the story seems utterly ridiculous! Kids turning completely savage in a matter of weeks/months to the point of killing each other?! Come on, that is Hollywood stuff.
What are you're thoughts and opinions?

Simply outstanding piece of work. Shows how quickly we can retrogress when good principals fly out of the window.
Perhaps those in the ANC top government should read it, kinda autobiographical.
How was old Piggy?
The story is actually very scary but given the crap we get on TV today it probably pales into insignificance, we have been so sensitised to violence. I read that book probably when I was 15, that was a long time ago. A 16 movie 38 years you got to see a nipple ......... I don't watch some 13 movies today as I think they are inappropriate. One too many wasted sunsets and one too many for the road .........

We did it in school as we'll, never liked the book, as I don't like reading something I'm not interested in. There was a movie about lord of the flies, watched that and passed my std 9 english. Lol

The series Under the Dome reminds me of that book in some way. Makes you wonder how long people will stay "civilized" after been cut off from civilization, and how long will it take for anarchy to break out after basic infrastructure is shut down.

It is a brilliant book.As others have stated it is a portrayal of how we can regress.

People are like domestic pigs. It only takes 2 generations to revert back to being a wild animal.
Domestic pigs that have reverted back to being wild are more dangerous here than the true Eurasians that were imported here 150 years ago.
