    Default Time wasted?

    Hi all,

Was hoping to get some advice from all the long time shooters on this forum.

I handed in my license application for Glock 19 about two months ago. I joined SADPA, joined a shooting range, and had professional legal help with the applications - all this took a big slice out of my book/beer money (priorities are not the same for all students hpy180).

Now for the predicament - what do I do till I get my license? I spent a lot of money and time (read bunking class) getting everything in order for the license application - but I don't have anything to show for it - yet. I can't even participate in SADPA shoots until I have my own firearm.

I considered getting some training done - but everyone requires that I have my own handgun and ammo.
I then considered getting an airsoft GBB replica of the G19 to start practicing draws, shooting stances etc - but knowing how little I know - I'm careful of learning bad habits that will later be difficult to correct - hence considering the training.

So are my days to be filled with youtube clips, handgun porn, and just basically being frustrated out of my mind until my license is approved in the very very very far future?

    Regards
    Theunis

Since you are in Pretoria, I would contact Swattie about some training...I think he can give you some answers that will make you happier than those you have apparently received thus far. Go to the SWATG section of the Dealer / Industry Partners forum and enter the SWATG section, then click on his name and send him this same massage as a PM.

Hang in there...it will get better!

Taking one step back, I'm assuming you don't have competency yet? If not, you must get your competency through first and foremost. If you don't have that your licence application will pretty much receive zero attention. PM me if need be and I'll give you some contact details to use at CFR.

You can. Chat to some IDPA shooters on Gunsite. I'm sure that you'll find someone that'll lend you a firearm to use at a match. We do it all the time.

Same above applies. It may cost you a six-pack though but I'm sure you'll find someone to help you out with gear and ammo for training. As per ikor, chat to Swat-G.

    Good luck with your application.

I handed in my competency application with my license application.

I sent SWATG an pm, and will be attending the next clubshoot with a puppy face and bakie load of beer.

    Thanks for the info.

Work on that competency application. Seriously, it's the key to guns.

Nope, gonna have to drop the puppy face then - I'm so ugly, when my mother sees me she laughs, only to start crying when she recognizes me.

My previous competency was declined because I was too young at the time of application (Had no luck with my appeal either). I asked the DFO if there was any possibility in skipping the safe inspection and interviews the 2nd time around, since they have already been done, I have not changed my place of residence. I received no answer - but I was probably pushing my luck.

Looking at the SADPA member list you appear to be a member at Donkerhoek (PDPC). If that is the case have a chat to Adrian (ROSS on GS) about doing a New Shooter Orientation. We did one a couple of weeks ago and there was definitely one lady in the same position as you training with a firearm borrowed from someone on the day. You need to do a NSO before you can take part in SADPA shoots so get that done ASAP.

I am also a new member at PDPC and am trying to get my Dedicate Status so will probably be attending just about every shoot available. I have a spare CZ75 that you are welcome to use at club shoots that I attend. Just bring your own belt and concealment and I will supply gun, 3xmags, holster and double mag pouch. I might even sponsor you some ammo but lets deal with that when we get there.

We usually shoot the last Saturday of the month so the next shoot is on the 28th November (See the schedule on the sadpa website)

The ball is in your court now. ;D

    Cheers

Thats the spirit Rudi, well done.

Although I believe the shoot has been moved to the 5th of December so that it can be the final shoot for the year...
