BEAR CLAW TYPE KNIFE

Hi Guys,

I have a friend who would like a bear claw knife with a serrated edge as his every day carry knife.

What knife could I get him under R1500. Would you guys recommend these types of knives for self defense.

CRKT make one called a Bear Claw and Smith&Wesson make a HRT Bear claw type knife.
Both should be within the budget.

I got an EDC bear claw for R450.00 at cape union mart. The one I got had the round nose I changed to a sharp point, you do get a sharp one as well. I carry around my neck when mountain biking. Trust me its effective (don't ask, don't tell)

I see sharp edge has two or three of this style of knife. The benchmade plan d and the kabar tdi. I am not sure which one to go for!

I really like my TDI. But the sheath is not great, I had Geoff Carter make me an awesome one though.

Friend of mine was present during an autopsy on a cadaver which received a slash across the chest with a Bear Claw - the cut went through several ribs and even punctured a lung, it was 7cm deep at places. Good choice from that point of view.

Geoff makes great sheaths but I just adapted the OEM one a bit and now it works great.

Below are 2 pics of the modified sheath and in its carry position.

Hi Rudes,

thanks so much for posting the sheath. I really like all of Geoff's products. His made holsters and mag pouches for me. At the moment he is making a 1911 holster for me. I am sold the Ka-Bar TDI is the way to go. Regards, Richard
