    Default Family tree search

    Hi guys,

Does anyone know where I can get historical SA military data?

I am busy building up my family tree and my great-grandfather was a vet of Deville Wood. He served in the 1 SAI.

He used to tell my father a particular story where, whilst he was firing, one of his spent rounds failed to extract, as he looked down, a bullet passed over his head and through his trench-jacket. Talk about luck. It seems that Deville Wood was one of the worst battles in WW1, with only a handful guys leaving a totally decimated forest.

When they enrolled to fight, did they have to complete a form or where they simply gathered up and shipped? The reason for asking this, is that I hope he wrote down his parents names as I have found no traces of them on any genealogical sites.

    Thanks!

I'm keen to see what you manage to find and using what resources.
My great grandfather was also in the Battle of Delville Wood...

Thanks, I found that site as well. Doesn't say much besides which infantry he was in and that he was wounded.
Did you find your great-grandfather on the roll call on that site?
