Guns & Ammo senior writer fired!

Guns & Ammo senior writer and columnist Dick Metcalfe has been fired due to an anti 2nd Amendment sentiment column in the Dec 2013 edition of the magazine.

He follows a line of gun writers (Jim Zumbo and Jerry Tsai) who committed the ultimate sin.

So the guy who okay'd the article for printing fires the guy who wrote it? Seems a bit hypocritical to me, fall guy kinda stuff.

I thought the editor was the head honcho and the buck stops with him...as I understand it, the author is the editor and all responsibility falls on him.

Dick Metcalfe is senior writer at G&A and was fired by the Editor.

Wasn't Dick a sub-editor? Like ManMagnum has Ron Anger as editor and then 3 or 4 sub-editors responible for certain areas.

I think firing him was a very harsh decision based on the fact that it is extremely well written.

Makes sense for him to move on. You can’t feel half-hearted about a subject and then write for a magazine that caters to purists, especially in an age where gun rights are contested every other month.

It's a publication catering exclusively to firearm owners in America. It is not a platform for political or philosophical discussion which goes contrary to the rights and privileges of the people who read your magazine. It would be commercial suicide to alienate your readers, and it is a severely career limiting decision to write something anti-2A in an American gun magazine as a contributor. I don't see how G&A had any other choice but to let the guy go, and if he is anti-2A he can go air his views in a publication that is suited to such discourse.

I would take a dim view to a writer employed by an aviation publication that criticised the holding of PPL's by the general public. It would also be unacceptable for a writer employed by a Landrover magazine criticising the emissions and environmental unfriendliness of a Series III, and he would justly deserve his sacking.

I don't read anywhere in his article that he is ANTI 2A. He merely voices concerns regarding peoples ideas and views of 2A that obviously differs very much from that of his own.

Maybe I am misreading something. I read the article and saw more of an educational article to the misinterpretations of what some people believe the 2A to be?
