[QUOTE=Springer;534085]This was morningstar. Saw a huge bugger in Atlantic Beach during the week.I/QUOTE]
Shucks! We have the dried up canal right behind the house. Luckily we have a high wall, however, I have heard that they can come over walls, (don't know how true it is). One of my friends at work's son is big into removing venomous snakes and sometimes will take to the road at night to go remove snakes from the roads.

Can't find the photo now but a while back I was out on the plots out by Donkerhoek (out past Pretoria east) and found myself a tad too close to a black Mamba. Thankfully it ignored me.

Re: Snake season is here!
Scariest experience I have had with a snake was when almost stepped on a puff adder. I was in my flat and it had a door that opens bottom and top. The top part was open and I did not really look out when opening the bottom door. The puff literally passed 5 cm under my foot. I caught it with some help from my buddy and we released it on tge farm.
I saw a really big one the other day while chasing down my neighbours escaped nyala. Be very careful while walking in the bush, these guys are experts in camouflage and you don't want to step on them.

The bandage is only for neurotoxic bites to limit the effects it will have on the vitals. Keeping cytotoxic venom in one place will make the bitten part much worse ,you want the venom spread out so that your body can fight it better.
The best snakebite protocol is having an expert on speed dial.
If you want a snake identified within a minute or two post your picture on this group

Lastly remember that the people bitten most often is those people trying to kill snakes. Not all snakes are "evil" and most people end up kiling the good do-ers of the snakeworld.

Re: Snake season is here!
Scariest situation with a snake was funnily enough in June on the eastern cape hunting. A puff adder with 5 dogs in front of it, snake was coiled and ready to strike when it was hit with both barrels of number 7's.

Re: Snake season is here!
You okes are serious about this discussion, let me simplify for the people who don't understand the medical terms.
1: Snakes are not evil, they are just normal critters that wants to live in peace, while killing other stuff.
2: Leave them alone, it's a 2 way street, they also want to be left alone.
3: If you get bitten, by a snake you either think you know or have no clue what it is, then leave it be, get to the hospital asap, there could be a chance that even though a snake has mild venom it can cause an allergic reaction in someone.
4: Don't go to Australia.
