There was a drowning in a pool on the Durban beach front on sunday, a 5 year old as far as I know. The life guards really have it tough due to the crowds.

Another thing to remember is that more children drown in the Province of Gauteng than any other. So don't just be on the lookout at the coast, but be alert around any body of water. You are the bigger one, be the adult.

Was in Mozam this December, in the 10 days I was in Inhambane 3 people drowned, they were 5 y/o, 19 y/o and then an elderly guy. No paramedics or anything there so you just hope that the people on the beach are trained!

I saw the elderly man while they were trying to resuscitate him, never seen how blue people actually go!

Thank you very much Ikor. I never thought that reality is different to the movies.A big shock to me as I have 2 small kids. They will be attending swimming lessons this year.

Great thread. I've had to help kids out of the water in cases of both drowning and aquatic distress. In the drowning case it was exactly as the article mentioned: no signs of distress, except that the child was trying her utmost to swim down in a straight line.

    Another LiveLeak video:

Kid was filming his cousins playing at a reservoir. He didn't realize things went wrong until it was too late.

This video really highlighted it to me how drowning does not look like drowning. Sensitive viewer warning...

I would like to Bump this again. That time of year. An acquaintance lost their 3 year old daughter to drowning a month ago. Accidents happen fast, please be careful!
