Carrying with expired license card
hi people
My licensed SD firearm has an expired license card. I applied for the renewal months before the expiry date but it has dragged on for months now.
Has anyone been stopped by the cops while carrying a FA with an expired card? Did they make calls to the CFR to confirm and/or let you go?
I have the receipt of the documentation for the renewal but it is hard to make out, so bad I can't even make a photo copy of it. Will make a plan to get a new copy of it though.
Going on a work trip tomorrow, pondering carrying a section 15 FA instead. Just don't want hassle outside of my home town.

I believe that if you reapplied and everything is in order then the old expired card is valid till you receive the new one. As the law states.

Yeah, the problem is whether the cop will bother to check with the CFR or give me grief.

Re: Carrying with expired license card
My Uncle has been stopped in a road block with an expired license card. When the officer who checked serial numbers to the card noticed he had an issue with it being expired. Fortunately their was a DFO on scene who quickly apologised and sent him on his way. It all depends on which type of officer stops you and there knowledge of the FCA.

Re: Carrying with expired license card
My Dad was stopped yesterday outside Harrismith in a massive SAPS roadblock. He had his Beretta on him and his card had expired. Apart from inspecting the serial no on the pistol and card, checking the no of rounds on his person, no issue. He did however have his ID book license on him as well, which pretty much makes the white card license, null and void.

Re: Carrying with expired license card
Hi,
Just a small hijack here. Just want to know if your licence is about to expire do you get a reminder in the post just as the car licence renewal process.
What is the procedure for renewal, where to go and cost involved again.
Forgive my stupidity but I am new to this.
Thanks.

Re: Carrying with expired license card
The short answer is "No". You don't get any reminder. NOTE: You are obliged to apply for a new license at least 90 days before the expiry date.
