The Sand Pebbles
Watching Steve McQueen rock that BAR was a reminder that he really was once a Marine, serving in 1947 when such weapons were the norm. Great movie, and a great star who passed far too soon.

Agreed! I see SMcQ as a bit of a hero - I share his love for guns, cars and watches.

Re: The Sand Pebbles
One of Steve McQueens unknown film roles was the early 1970's film " On Any Sunday ". Steve loved dirt bikes and agreed to be filmed with his riding buddies. It was in the last 30 mins. of the film. They had film of them riding at Glamis sand dunes, Octillo Wells and a race at Lake Elsinore in Southern California. He was a pretty good rider.
It created a huge demand for dirt bikes here in the States. Got me hooked.
Always wanted a Husqvarna like Steve's but they were too expensive for me in those days. Now days its KTMs for me.
Going to have to make a trip in the spring back to So. California to ride at Beaumont Hills, Glamis and other places.

Krieger,
I forgot about " On Any Sunday " I think it made every kid with a bike want to go pro. I raced Enduros and Hare Scrambles up in District 36 in the late 80's and early 90's.
Ca. has its problems, but for riding and racing its hard to beat.

Re: The Sand Pebbles
I found my copy of On Any Sunday. It is -8.3c now and everything is covered in ice. Working of replacing the fuel petcock on my KTM. Stupid ethanol blended gasoline caused the brass filter screen to corrode. The new replacement uses a nylon mesh filter. I was using VP racing gas with no ethanol but when it went from $6 USD a gallon to $18.5 I quit using it.
The wife is making chili now and this afternoon is movie time.

Yes, it is coming your way. Tonight we have 40+mph winds along with the -8. The windchill is bad.
Our 10 year drought with warm winters is officially over.
We have been zooming around the empty streets on our Honda 4x4 four wheeler. With ice cables on the tires you can go anywhere.
Too icy to try the KTM.
