Default Interesting Mythbusters episode on silencers

The clip looks at whether the sound a Hollywood silencer makes is the same as in the real world.
Surprising results. Suppose it depends on the silencer.

The .22 silencers used during our shooting days, make the rifles sound like the Hollywood sounds. The .22 literally makes no sound at all, all you hear is Pffft, TING!! Pfft, TING! everytime it is shot. It is less noisy than a pellet gun. So I guess it depends which calibre and what type of weapon you test as well with and without a silencer.

On A silenced semi auto 22, the bolt cycling usually makes more noise then the shot. Its So quiet

I need a better suppressor then, I've never had that sort of performance from my .22's. The only gun I've seen come close was a bolt action .22.

Do you make use of sub-sonic Ammo?

My 308 aswell as .22 makes almost no noise with sub-sonic ammo.

My .22 shoots sub-sonic rounds with no noise other than a little click.

    Yup.
There's a reason why we don't [have to] wear hearing protection when playing with the .22 suppressed. Actually feels the same as going commando .... that freedom...

Yeah I've used Swartklip and Remington sub sonic. I've just purchased some Winchester sub. But my pistol makes loads of noise, my 15-22 with Terminator suppressor makes loads of noise. My home made suppressor works the best, but isn't bolt moving quiet.

that's why i love the 15-22 with the suppressor, makes it a much more social experience, far more fun.
