Re: Getting started with Black Powder, assistance.
Ok, update.
All brass (grip surround and trigger guard) has been buffed to a beautiful shine.
Grip has been sanded down and refinished with a combination of boiled linseed, shaftol, dark walnut danish oil and a slight bit of imbuia stain to give it the nice dark, but natural look that I like.
I have started fettling the rough edges on the cylinder, getting rid of all the high spots and blending in "dents" where possible. Will vapour blast this (and the barrel and other steel parts when they're done) in the next few days.
Wedge has been "cleaned up" but I'm not entirely happy with it.
Will post pics when I get a gap.

The pin on which the cylinder is positioned still loose? or could you fasten/fix it?

Still loose, but I will be knocking the fixing pin out in the next couple of days to see what's happening there. Will advise.

Oh, that was easy, thought I'd give the pin a go quick and it came out easy. Threads on the shaft still look good so ill put in a new pin and see if that tightens it up a bit. Failing that ill deform the threads ever so slightly to ensure a tight lockup then re-pin.
I took photos, will post shortly.

Okay, let's see if this photobucket thing works:
The cylinder, some of the rough edges filed down, still needs lots of work, sandblasted will do this part well.
Stripped frame with cylinder shafts removed. The little pin is stuffed, Makes it easier to work on each part anyway:
Woodwork and brass before and after :) :
Hope the images display.

Re: Getting started with Black Powder, assistance.
very nice... just a concern: on the cylinder where you filed it, there used to be small pins. The hammer's got a groove that fits over these pins and locks the weapon down, preventing the cylinder from turning and moving the hammer over a loaded chamber. I can't see the pins anymore and I am not sure if the cylinder will turn with this safety measure removed? Just try it out unloaded after you assemble it again to make sure the cylinder won't turn when the hammer is down between two chambers.

You are making it look better than brand new. Black powder is a dirty business.... I wouldn't get it over my heart to shoot it and dirty it all up again after all that cleaning and restoring.
