Quad Trip, Day of Reconciliation-Weekend 2013
Made a trip from Alberton to Funky Town and then on to Gunpoint Shooting Range (near Heidelberg).
Overnighted at GPSR and then travelled back to Alberton.
Round trip was 180km on my Honda Rhincon.
Used about 18 liters of fuel (10km/l)
Travelled through some picturesque countryside and also very close to "low cost" housing. No incidents and everyone I met or passed was happy to wave.
Here are some pics:

The river is the Klip river. Reputedly a very polluted river. When I crossed it smellt strongly of washing detergent!
On the Sunday when I recrossed it there were large bubbles of foam.

I stopped at Funky Town did some shooting with my NEA 14.5 .
Had a late breakfast (my first complete MRE) "Chicken Fajita & refried beans" was very satisfying and felt "full" afterwards.

Re: Quad Trip, Day of Reconciliation-Weekend 2013
I travelled from Funky Town towards the R59. The trick was to obviously avoid trespassing or using public roads.
At one point I found myself on private land. I rode to the farmhouse, introduced myself and sheepishly apologised. The farmer was cool with everything ;-)
I visited the Block House. A fortification or watch post constructed during the Boer War 1899-1902. This was one of the better built ones, most of them being constructed out of sandbags & corrugated sheeting.

I understand they were meant to guard key locations & eliminate the Boers freedom of movement.
Edit: The block house is in bad shape.
In some of the pics one can should seen an iron "brace" the encircles the top of the structure. This appear to be holding the structure together as it wants to fall apart.
There is no roof and the floor space is filled with debris from the collapsing walls and years of being unroofed.
I will start a separate thread (Time permitting) to discuss this in more detailLast edited by camouflage762; 21-12-2013 at 07:37.

From the block house I came across another river, lots of bee hives and a settling tank filled with Pink Flamingo's!

Passing Zonkizizwe I almost got stuck in smelly muck only to find my route blocked by a makeshift bridge

I was not going to risk my Honda, so I had to turn around and go back through the smelly muck.
The quad handled it with ease, however, it was nerve wracking as there was no one who could have pulled me out.Recent studies show that 1 out of every 3 liberals are just as dumb as the other 2

Passed some lovely old farmhouses, Tragically they were all in ruins. Perhaps they had been sold many years ago?
I was privileged to travel on a servitude road through a nature reserve. The gate had been stolen and the security guard had no problems with me travelling through.Recent studies show that 1 out of every 3 liberals are just as dumb as the other 2
