Want new Air rifle

Hi guys

I want to buy a new Air rifle to do some target shooting and to take care of some birds that keep on waking me up

An advice on a good rifle as I am on a limited budget??

I have been looking at the Gamo Nitro 17 (can get it new with a scope for about R2000)

Spring air rifles are very hard on scopes. Remember, you have two bumps in different directions ... one when the spring goes and one when it hits the front of the rifle. Most (even expensive scopes) do not like that. If you want a scope, buy one that is air-rifle rated, but then you go over your budget.

If you want to mount a scope on it, its a goid idea to have it detuned by an airgun smith. Most springers are oversprung, making the recoil more and decreasing accuracy. The recoil also kills scopes, even springer rated scopes wont last unless you decrease the force of the main spring

Vincent knows his stuff, but I would seriously consider Weihrauch. Your question is seriously loaded, however. It all depends on your budget. A decent field target rifle with a proper scope and the gadgets to make it run will come in close to R50 000.

Vincent will be able to sort you out. Rather go open sights for now and up the spending on rifle/tune. You can always get a scope later, but difficult to get a real cheap rifle to shoot decently
