Re: Mossberg A500 for IDPA?
On other shotguns you can still use the safety with a pistol grip. That said the only pistol grip stocks I like on Shotguns are the style attached to a full fixed stock. M4 stocks work on M4's.
The Magpul stock gives great ergos used both conventionally and in some unconventional positions. I also like the adjustable LOP and the fact that the stock can be adjusted for various heights of sights. It's a lot more comfortable for high volume shooting than a M4 style stock. And I believe suits the fast pointing nature of the shotgun.

Re: Mossberg A500 for IDPA?
I have a 500 and its pretty standard apart from the stocks.
I have the pacmayr front and some no name rear plastic stock.
I bought it with an R4 stock, it was not for me so I swapped it for a simple one.
Its reliable and shoots where I aim it. Lower capacity that other tactical ones but load when you are not shooting and it will work.

The Magpul just also looks more comfortable to shoot as well. I haven't shot many pistol grip shotguns and the Magpul looks to be a bit more familiar. Another problem I foresee is the slide release manipulation when using a pistol grip stock..?
I think this could be the one.

Re: Mossberg A500 for IDPA?
So I mounted the LPA sights. It went well but took some serious planning as to where the holes needed to be drilled. Looks good I think. It also takes some figuring out as the front sight is quite complicated to mount and there aren't any instructions.
Pics are attached.

Next up is a side saddle. I see a lot of guys use the Tac Star ones so I might go with one of them when they are in stock again. And Magpul SGA FDE stock is on backorder, looking forward to getting that!

How competitive would something like this be in IPSC?

Re: Mossberg A500 for IDPA?
Probably not very. The 5 plus 1 capacity will severely limit you against guys with 8 and 9 shot mags.
