300BLK (7,62x35) Operational Use
I received this info from a well known trainer and gun writer in the USA:
I'm told by friends in the Special Forces Community that the 300 Blk (Blackout), now designated the "7.62x35." is rapidly displacing the 5.56x45, both officially and unofficially. It appears to be doing what the 6.8mm SPC (6.8x43) was supposed to do, but never did!
Please do not reply with comments that 300BLK will never replace 5,56 in use with military in general because that is not what this is saying.

A single caliber cannot be all things in all places. Any army operating in a range of different theaters will always need to have options available. The 7.62X35 is just that. Another option the fill gaps in operational requirements.

Re: 300BLK (7,62x35) Operational Use
There were plenty of naysayers and just as recently as 3rd Q last year I was told by a friend that some people/a guy (I know one name) on a hunting forum here in SA were telling other people the 300BLK was being "phased" out in the USA and was not viable.....

I think 300BLK will only become more and more popular and more widely used by Military and LE in time.
There is already a users in the USPSA rifle scene according to some of the forums I read.

i would assume it would be popular in the specops community.
lots of stopping power, little recoil, very little sound signature, compact = win

From what I've seen I really like it. Can think that it will only gather momentum.
Definitely a caliber I would like to own.

Re: 300BLK (7,62x35) Operational Use
The thing is, if the calibre makes sense to you, there's really no reason not to get an AR based 300BLK rifle at least just for fun, even here in SA, even if it did just magically 'disappear' (which it won't):
* Ammo (provided you reload) will always be available - 5.56/.223 brass (will always be around) + 60 seconds of chopping and changing = 300BLK brass + .300 bullets (lots to choose from) = ammo
* AR rifle, exactly like any other AR + 300BLK AR barrel = 300 BLK AR
As an interested amateur, it seems to me that the 6.8's etc all have too much to change, it's like getting another system entirely.
It was on my shopping list, and still is, but I plumped for an MP15-22 because of cheaper practice and my children will enjoy it more - hardly special forces selection criteria! :)
