Police in Kwazakhele, Port Elizabeth, are trying to identify a man who was shot dead by at least two gunmen in Seyisi Street late on Tuesday afternoon.

Police spokesperson, captain Andre' Beetge, says at least 20 shots were fired by the gunmen, who used a 9mm hand-gun and an R-5 rifle during the attack.

He says while the motive is still under investigation, they suspect robbery, as an empty tog bag was found on the scene.

Beetge says they believe the suspects fled in a green VW minibus.

"If there is anybody with information please contact the New Brighton detectives so that we can determine the identity of the victim and his assailants so we can bring this case to book" he said
